The grounding process is considered one of the most important steps that must be accomplished when installing an electrical network, whether in household electrical installations or in industrial facilities.  And what are the types of grounding process?  The most important uses of the grounding process?  Tools needed to complete the grounding process?  All these questions we will try to answer in this small educational article. Follow the explanation with me.

Definition of earthing :

The grounding process is the connection of an electric wire between electrical appliances and the ground away from the source of electrical energy through what is called the electrode, which is a rod with a length of one meter or more, depending on the type of place for which the grounding process is to be established. It is made of brass, as the ground voltage is equal to  Zero, which allows excess electric current to flow to it without exposing people to electric shock, whether direct or indirect. This is why it is considered one of the most important techniques to maintain the safety of people and property connected to electricity. This is simply the mechanism of the grounding process.

Components of the grounding process:

For the grounding process to work, some electrical components must be available for the success of the grounding process and for it to work effectively and with high efficiency. These are the most important equipment that must be available:

 Grounding electrode:

It is a metal rod, often made of copper or aluminum, and it serves as a link between the ground and the electricity distribution box. It is buried in the ground, either fully or partially, as in the following picture:

 plate electrode:

It is a plate made of galvanized iron, with a thickness of 6 centimeters or more, depending on the type of grounding. It is also buried in the ground with the iron rod, in order to reduce the resistance value of the ground. This picture shows the shape of the grounding plate.

Connecting equipment :

It is an accessories and tools to connect the various earthing elements well and effectively, And it has a role in securing a path with the lowest possible resistance, and these are pictures of some connecting tools, in the grounding process.

Types of grounding :

There are many different types of grounding that differ according to the type of electrical network that we want to work for the grounding process.

GRID GROUNDING .
STAATIC GROUNDING.
GRID GROUNDING.
LOCAL GROUNDING .
TEMPORARY Grounding .

Grounding Uses :

The most important role for the grounding is to protect household appliances and electrical property, as well as protect people from electric shock :

Industrial facilities,
household electrical installations,
factories and laboratories,
electrical power plants.

Conclusion:

Before starting the grounding process, a suitable place must be chosen so that it is far from the source of electrical energy. You can put it in the comments section or on our Facebook page "Electrical Engineering Tips " .

Why are electrical transformers measured in KVA and motors in KW

Why are electrical transformers measured in KVA and motors in KW   Why are electrical transformers measured in KVA and motors in KW Welcome to the Electron Tips website. In this topic, we will learn about the reason for measuring electrical transformers in the unit KVA (kilovolt-ampere) and electric motors in the unit of kilowatt (KW).   Why electric motors are measured in KW:  An electric motor is an electrical device that consumes effective electrical power, which is why it is expressed in units of kilowatts or horsepower because it expresses the amount of electrical energy that the motor has benefited from, and it means the actual power used for mechanical purposes and expresses the actual performance of the electric motor (effective power), because  Inefficient power will do nothing for the electric motor.   The reason for measuring electrical transformers in KVA:  Electrical transformers' primary role is to convert electrical voltages, as they do not ...

What is a perfect ground resistance value

What is a perfect ground resistance value   What is a good ground resistance value Grounding is considered one of the most important systems that must be present in all electrical installations, whether in homes, buildings, or even power transmission lines. Grounding is essential for protecting people and electrical equipment from electric current leakage.  Previously, we provided a comprehensive guide on how to establish a grounding system from scratch and the key components you would need. You can view the topic [ here ]. In this article, we will explore the optimal value for good grounding resistance and how you can measure it using a Megger device. Optimal Grounding Resistance Value: Before installing a grounding system in the soil, it is essential to measure the earth resistance value using a Megger Device, especially if sensitive devices and equipment will be installed in the area. The ideal earth resistance value is zero, though achieving this value is practically impos...

Is lightning direct current or alternating current

Is lightning direct current or alternating current  Is lightning direct current or alternating current Many people ask about the type of electricity found in lightning, and in this small article we will explain to you whether lightning is a continuous or alternating electrical current. First, let us get to know the definition of the phenomenon of lightning and how it occurs.   Definition of lightning:  Lightning is a massive electrical discharge, meaning it contains very high electrical energy, ranging from 1 to 10 million joules. The temperature of lightning may reach 30,000 degrees Celsius, and this discharge may occur between the ground and the cloud or between two clouds together. Related articles: Can the capacitor charge the battery   The answer to the question: What is the electric current in lightning?  The electric current in lightning is an alternating electric current because it changes direction quickly and repeatedly in a short time over a short per...
