How do you use a Megger device:
- First thing is verify that the Megger is in good working condition. Check the leads and connections for any signs of wear or damage.
- Select Test Voltage: Choose an appropriate test voltage based on the equipment's operating voltage. Common test voltages are 250V, 500V, and 1000V.
Connecting the Megger:
- Line (L) Terminal: Connect this lead to the conductor or component under test.
- Earth (E) Terminal: Connect this lead to a known ground or the equipment's grounding point.
- Guard (G) Terminal: If available, use this terminal to eliminate surface leakage effects, ensuring more accurate readings.
- Maintain the test voltage for about 1 minute to allow the reading to stabilize.
Note : high resistance value indicates good insulation, while a low resistance value suggests potential insulation degradation or faults.
